How do I secure my home Wi-Fi network?

Internet Texoma, Inc. has signed the Call To Action at BB4US.NET (US Broadband Coalition), calling on President-elect Barack Obama and the next Congress to make the development and initial implementation of a comprehensive National Broadband Strategy a high national priority in 2009. The goals include:

a. Every American home, business, and public and private institution should have access to affordable high-speed broadband connections to the Internet.

b. Access to the Internet should, to the maximum feasible extent, be open to all users, service providers, content providers, and application providers.

c. Network operators must have the right to manage their networks responsibly, pursuant to clear and workable guidelines and standards.

d. The Internet and broadband marketplace should be as competitive as reasonably possible.

e. U.S. broadband networks should provide Americans with the network performance, capacity, and connections they need to compete successfully in the global marketplace.

Internet Texoma's WDSL (Wireless DSL) is available in many rural areas of Grayson County and Fannin County where the subscriber has line of sight to the serving tower. WDSL speeds are up to the same speeds quoted by Verizon for their DSL product within 3 miles or so of the Verizon Central Office, i.e., 1 Mbps / 384 Kbps (34x faster than dial-up*). * Speed comparison based upon performance with a 28.8 Kbps modem. Actual speed may vary. Actual throughput speed will vary based on network and Internet congestion among other factors.

FCC Certified 2.4GHz CPE's manufactured by Ubiquiti (Milpitas, California) (FOR SELF INSTALLATION) may be ordered from Titan Wireless Online or you may call (512)-942-6069. In the case where you do not wish to do the self install, please contact Internet Texoma for information about an installer in your area.

Sending/Receiving Photos On Dial-Up Connections
Microsoft's Tip regarding sharing photos: says, in part, "By e-mailing photos directly from your My Pictures folder, Windows XP gives you the option of reducing the file size of the images, making for a better viewing experience for the person on the receiving end of your e-mail. Reducing the file size of your images is particularly helpful when you, your recipient, or both of you are using a slower dial-up Internet connection."

Bogus Email Allegedly from Internet Texoma

It has come to our attention that there is an email circulating that claims to be from "The Texoma Support Team" that contains an attachment to help "clean your machine" or asking you to "open and confirm the attached document". These emails did not originate from us and should be treated as spam. Opening these attachments can expose your system to virus infection. Internet Texoma does not make a practice of sending attached files to your account.
